The Nets, Fading Fast
In the NBA, you're either contending or rebuilding. Right now the New Jersey Nets seems to be taking part in a 3rd option, simply losing for no good reason. You can make excuses for them and say "well they just lost their starting center, Nenad Krstic". Ok, but they still have 1 of the best starting trios in the league, in Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson. They have rookies who have played on NCAA title contending teams. And their coach has coached them to the finals before. So what's the problem?
Something isn't working right now in New Jersey. If I were the GM, as simple as it sounds, I'd get a replacement veteran center, and quickly. I heard the name Jamaal Magloire tossed out there, and honestly he makes sense. He's a veteran, former all-star and I doubt he'd mind being around guys like Vince, Kidd and RJ amongst others. He might even take them closer to the NBA Finals. The Nets have to know better than to try to "gut out" the season with what they have. Either Lawrence Frank is going to be fired, or some serious personnel moves will be made in the offseason.
Now if they do miss the playoffs and qualify for the lottery, Greg Oden certainly won't be a bad option. Hearing boos from the fans on a nightly basis should be enough for the management to understand, something needs to change, and soon.
