Iverson on the Move
It appears AI has played his last basketball in Philadelphia. Tonight prior to the game vs the Wizards, it was announced would not play due to his back spasms. But reports began circulating that Iverson had asked to be traded and therefore the team asked him not to play, or even show for the game. Interviews were made with Webber and Billy Hunter, GM of the SIxers prior to the game. Both were political in their answers not giving any credibility to any report. Then during the course of the game, the chairman of the Sixers, Ed Snyder, was interviewed in the crowd by an ESPN reporter. He reported that “Yes” Allen Iverson has asked to be traded, and the organization would do its best to accommodate his request, because “it’s time to move on”.
This has been the rumor of several seasons now, that AI would be gone in Philadelphia, and now it has come to a head. It appears the best fits for Iverson would be the Celtics, Hawks and possibly Sacramento Kings. All 3 are teams in need of help, and all 3 have the ability to package a bunch of players in exchange for the Eastern All-star. This could cause a major change in momentum in the NBA, if Iverson shifts over to the West.
Jim Gray of ESPN reported he spoke to Allen Iverson and Iverson said he didn’t believe the situation with the Sixers could be mended, and that he hopes a trade will be in the works and that he will be joining the Minnesota Timberwolves. KG & AI, imagine that…
