An Offensive Explosion - Suns vs Nets

Wow. Tonight I witnessed probably the single best NBA game I've seen in quite a while, when the blazing hot Phoenix Suns brought their 7 game win streak into New Jersey to face the Nets. It was a battle of the 2 premier point guards in the league in Nash and Kidd.

This was an offensive showdown, with a combined 318 points and 2 Overtimes. Suns outlasted the Nets in 2 overtimes, 161-157. A game with over 30 lead changes in this game and about 14 ties. Jason Kidd and Steve Nash were definitely at the top of their games, and the Suns displayed why they sit atop many analyst's "NBA champion" lists. Some game notes:

-Pre-game, an interview with Steve Nash by a Nets' reporter revealed that Nash has had paper cuts from playing with the new ball. He says he's adjusted to the new ball but its hard to play when his hands are cut up. Talk about worker's comp.

-Kidd recorded another triple double and the one to tie Wilt Chamberlain for third in all-time triple doubles. Congratulations to J-Kidd on this milestone in his hall of fame career.

-During the game Ian Eagle announced that Suns player Raja Bell consumes a raw cow liver with a side of beans daily because he believes it gives him an edge. I think it would give most people a sickness.

-A melee almost broke out as Miki Moore was emitting his usual energy on the boards trying to get a ball, he wrapped up Steve Nash, who proceeded to shove Moore's arm away. The two faced off in a stare down as Nash smirked and was jawing with Moore. Double T. I agree Miki, last guy you want to fire up is Nash.

-Nenad Krstic fouled out early before the end of the 4th, meaning the Nets would have to rely on the services of Jason Collins and Miki Moore for the remainder. Vince Carter fouled out in the final 5 seconds of regulation when he fouled Boris Diaw to prevent a 3 pointer being taken. Diaw hits 2 FT's, Kidd gets fouled, hits his 2, and then a miracle rainbow 3 by Nash to send it to OT.

-After seeing Shawn Marion's energy level in the 2nd OT, I swear he's from another planet, the guy seems to never tire. What does he eat for breakfast?

The Nets appeared dead in OT#2 until a few Suns turnovers and then Kidd with a circus like And 1 shot. Diaw heads back down court and backs down Kidd for a close up layup. Kidd turnover on the ensuing play, 2 Nash free throws..ballgame. 161-157.

An amazingly great offensive showdown tonight between these 2 teams. Kudos to the Nets for hanging with the Suns, and if the Suns can do this to ANY NBA team, I'd crown them champs now. The way they rotate the ball and knock down 3's is unmatched these days in my opinion. Ok, time to catch my breath.
