Referee Betting Stats

ESPN.com had an interesting piece on Sportscenter discussing the recent scandal and alleged betting of NBA referee Tim Donaghy. According to the report narrated by Jeremy Schapp, Donaghy made many questionable calls and non-calls in the Phoenix vs San Antonio playoff series this past year as well as had an incident where he tossed Doc Rivers from a 2003 game, 2 minutes into the contest. The report noted that Donaghy was never under any serious suspicion for how he called NBA games though. The report also mentioned an interesting website, coverwire.com. It's a gambling site which provides NBA referee stats, in terms of how their calls affect games and the point spreads.

On the coverwire.com site's NBA ref stats, you will see Tim Donaghy, the NBA ref in question at #8 on the list. According to the stats he refereed in 66 contests, or that was how many they measured over the season. I'm not a sports better myself, so I'm open to others' interpretations of these stats.

Take a look at the coverwire.com list of NBA referee stats in terms of how their calls affect bets.
