Bulls Make an Early Statement
The Bulls made a big statement in their first game of the new NBA season, by going into Miami and beating the world-champion Heat 108-66, right after the Heat championship ring ceremony. The announcers made comments about how "standing around for 45 minutes for a ceremony before a game can have effects on teams or players". It was more evident that the Bulls have made some very strong additions to what was already a very talented group.
The Bulls added size, experience, great defense and rebounding to their front court. They signed Ben Wallace, a defensive/rebounding specialist and member of the champion Pistons' team. They also added a veteran solid frontcourt star in PJ Brown (after trading off Tyson Chandler). And then signing the highly touted athletic draft pick in Tyrus Thomas from LSU, as well as picking up Adrian Griffin and a few others. The announcers pointed out Chicago fans now have something to be happy about again.
It's apparent the Bulls have a solid core of talent, many great role players and a deep bench. Hinrich, Duhon and Gordon who can all play the point or shooting guard role and get points when needed. The Bulls were able to get rebounds on both ends of the court, and also got out on the break alot more thanks to their new inside presence and big men rebounding and passing. If the Bulls continue this intensity and style of play, they could be serious title contenders this season. Even though its early, the moves of Scott Skiles are looking to pay strong dividends for the windy city.
