My 2006-07 NBA Predictions
I was surprised at some of ESPN the Magazine's recent NBA predictions for this year. Suns to win it all? Toronto to finish 2nd in the Atlantic? Must be typos, or big gambles. Here are my predictions for winners this coming season.
NBA MVP: Lebron James
Hard not to pick D-Wade, but Lebron seems very hungry and wants
to prove to the league who owns it. His stats have only improved in all aspects
and at that rate, how can he not be the most valuable guy on a team?
NBA Rookie of the Year: Adam Morrison
Many people throw the names Foye and Roy
out in the discussion while overlooking Adam Morrison. Many will
be quick to compare him to maybe Keith Van Horn or Tom Gugliotta.
But despite his tears in his final moments of a big NCAA tourney game,
this kid has the heart, ability, talent and skills to shoot the lights out.
Playing for a bad team doesnt hurt either, it only gives him more
opportunity to show what he's capable of.
Defensive Player of the Year: Marcus Camby
The numbers this guy was putting up last year were all star stats.
Unfortunately his injury stopped him from attaining the status.
This year is a new year to shine for the Camby man. A blocks, steals
and do it all type. Ben Wallace a definite runner up, 2nd choice.
NBA Champion - Dallas Mavericks
It's hard to say this team will just fade away after their fate in
last year's NBA Finals. Most of the team's core is still around and
they are younger and fresher than the Heat, should a rematch occur.
Overall, the talent, shooting and playmaking of this team is strong
enough to take it all this season.
NBA Runner-Up: Cleveland Cavaliers
I have to go out on a big limb here and choose the Cleveland Cavs.
My reasoning might seem illogical, but its simple, King James. He
does amazing things and pushes the bar/raises expectations. The team
kept its core in tact and didnt make any huge moves/trades. They
have role players who compliment Lebron and who he only makes better.
Plus D-Wade got to the title first..
Sleeper team: Charlotte Bobcats
If you look at the roster of talent (Morrison, Emeka Okafor, Felton,
May, Wallace, etc) This team could turn some heads this year. Then
again they could also turn ankles.
So there you have it, a Cavs-Mavs showdown for the Finals.
